It is an essential endogenous pyridine dinucleotide coenzyme existing in all living cells, circulating reversibly between oxidized NAD+ and reduced NADH forms to undertake hydride ion and electron transfer in cellular tricarboxylic acid cycle, oxidative phosphorylation and energy metabolism pathways.
